The Laughing Stock: Ch. OneBlood-red smiles and sinister words circled her head. She didn’t see the weapon, the fingerprints, the stage – she saw everything else, noticed the miniscule details. His socks were off, defiantly thrown in the corner behind the door (he hated sleeping with his socks on) and his trousers were still on the floor where he had left them upon missing the hamper. These things were normal, and so she thought of them. The smiles painted in red and the letters written over her mirror in lipstick were abnormal and horrifying. He sits on the edge of the bed and she stands in between his knees. Her small hands capture his larger ones, and she smiles as she presses something into his palm. It is a sheet of pink paper, folded intricately into a heart.
“We don’t have them, so I thought I’d make you one,” she explains. Seeing her beaming, looking so utterly happy, he can’t help but smile back.
“I have a heart,” he says. He takes her tiny hands in his, and he holds her palms against his chest. Then, he places one of his hands on her chest, and she breaks one of hers free to cover it. &
